Rhythm is an earpiece designed specifically for runners who need to keep track of their heart rate. This will be able to connect to the user's phone, track their pace, and heartbeat, and in addition, play music! Once the runner's heartbeat gets too high, the music will start to slow down, signaling that the runner needs to either slow their pace or take a break.

AQI Hat is a wearable air quality monitor designed to increase awareness of air pollution, a public health threat that causes the premature deaths of around seven million people worldwide. Inspired by other successful air pollution awareness campaigns, this project aims to create systemic change through widespread public awareness and data collection.

This project could be used by anyone interested in air pollution or citizen science but would be particularly helpful to users in areas particularly affected by air pollution. By combining air quality sensors with a NeoPixel strip and wearable light diffusor, this project will alert the wearer and surrounding observers of the potential health risks of the air they are breathing. These sensors would also record air quality data in various environments. This data could be used to study air quality around the world.

Effective communication has been shown to help individuals with their emotional and social well-being. WatchFul is a device that allows two trusted individuals to communicate with each other through color. Bamidji State University states, “Color is considered the most instantaneous method of conveying a message.” For someone for who communication might be hard (especially about their feelings), WatchFul is a helpful tool to use in situations where communication daily might be hard, maybe because of a long-distance relationship, or a school doesn’t allow someone to use their phone. WatchFul can also be used in other settings such as in a hospital between a patient and a nurse, or between two family members. Intentionally, WatchFul doesn’t have a manual to tell what each color means, so the decision about what each color means can be decided between the users to make the project more personable.

When one user is feeling so inclined, they will use the touch bar on the watch, to choose their color matching the emotion they’re feeling. They will then send that color to the watch on the other end, and the second user will receive that emotion. Then, they will send back a color, depending on what emotion they’re feeling. Both users will know the feelings of the other person and it will over time, develop a strong bond between the two. In addition, it will become easier for individuals using WatchFul to talk about their feelings.

Heart on the Line Bracelets

Heart on the Line is a bracelet that allows for a caretaker (not registered nurse or doctor, but a mother, grandchild, neighbor, etc) to be alerted if a person with a heart or health condition has too high or low of a heart rate. There are a lot of devices on the market like FitBits, Apple Watches, etc. that have a heart rate tracker app included, but there isn't anything for people who need their health to be monitored by another person.

Due to many different health conditions and reasons why heart rates can spike to unhealthy levels, Heart on the Line caters to the needs of a larger audience group with any reason for heart rate monitoring. For this reason, this product is designed to alert the caretaker of a high/unhealthy heart rate level so that they can then make a decision on the next steps to take. This allows for the reaction and decisions to include both the patient and the caretaker. Heart on the Line works by connecting the two bracelets using WiFi, LED light strips, and a heart rate monitor. When the monitor senses a heart rate higher than 120BPM, the LED strips on both bracelets light up, alerting both people of the heart rate level.
