Effective communication has been shown to help individuals with their emotional and social well-being. WatchFul is a device that allows two trusted individuals to communicate with each other through color. Bamidji State University states, “Color is considered the most instantaneous method of conveying a message.” For someone for who communication might be hard (especially about their feelings), WatchFul is a helpful tool to use in situations where communication daily might be hard, maybe because of a long-distance relationship, or a school doesn’t allow someone to use their phone. WatchFul can also be used in other settings such as in a hospital between a patient and a nurse, or between two family members. Intentionally, WatchFul doesn’t have a manual to tell what each color means, so the decision about what each color means can be decided between the users to make the project more personable.

When one user is feeling so inclined, they will use the touch bar on the watch, to choose their color matching the emotion they’re feeling. They will then send that color to the watch on the other end, and the second user will receive that emotion. Then, they will send back a color, depending on what emotion they’re feeling. Both users will know the feelings of the other person and it will over time, develop a strong bond between the two. In addition, it will become easier for individuals using WatchFul to talk about their feelings.
