Floating Balance

Floating Balance is a physical object that offers what digital apps don't in helping people obtain a healthy lifestyle. With a series of floating ping pong balls creating a graph-like display, this product gives the user a visual view of their recent food consumption.

In modern society, self-appearance is a commodity everyone strives to perfect, and with that comes the maintenance of personal weight. According to the Boston Medical Center, an estimated 45 million Americans go on a diet each year, and Americans spend $33 billion each year on weight loss products. Floating Balance, although it does not give an in-depth analysis, is a cheaper solution aimed to help track your diet. It lacks the complex numbers and statistics most digital apps use involving macro nutrients (that frankly no one wants to deal with). Users get a sense of their dietary health without spending hours each week tracking it. A user simply inserts a serving size coin to a given food group, and Floating Balance does the rest. The user can sit back and watch the ping pong balls fly into the air.

DEPLOYA-BOARD

By: Max Myers & Spencer Ankner

Longboarding is a fun thing to do and is enjoyable for a lot of people but it's a pain to carry them around. For example, if you were going on the train or the bus there isn't much space to have a longboard. Our product uses a simple sliding mechanism to expand and contract the board. With this mechanism, we can shorten the longboard from a length of 44 inches down to a length of 12 inches. Once it slides into its 12-inch form it can then fold in half and fit in your backpack.

Phobia Fighter is a 2D roguelike set in the psyches of those suffering from complex phobias. The user plays as a hunter tasked with finding and expelling the symptoms of these complex phobias. Those that suffer from complex phobias can have their lives controlled and suffocated by symptoms such as paranoia, depression, and anxiety. Through artwork and level design informed by accounts of those affected, Phobia Fighter helps the player build empathy and better understand the effects of chronic phobias.

Public Transportation: Return Trip

By Verity and Noelle

Public Transportation is a video game about a transit system in a large city. You play a journalist who interviews residents about the city’s budgeting, specifically in regards to transportation. The goal of the game is to learn about different perspectives people hold regarding city budgeting.

A lot of budgeting decisions are based on the fact that people prefer funding new developments rather than maintaining existing infrastructure. When this happens, older infrastructure can become decrepit, obsolete, and sometimes even unsafe or uninhabitable, while the push for new things can become controversial. The larger aspect of city budgeting also impacts people who don’t use public transportation and would rather that money be spent on things such as education and healthcare. The game Public Transportation intends to raise awareness of all these issues.

MEME CHESS

Meme Chess combines the present day meme culture with the timeless game of chess. The design philosophy of this project is to embody the chaos and the current generation's mentality of turning everything into a meme and to make the role or significance of the chess pieces match the current day and age. Each of the pieces has been replaced with a popular meme that matches the personality or vibe of that piece. The king has been changed to “Gigachad” because it is used to represent the absolute pinnacle of something, the pawn is the face from the “panik” meme due to its simple, poorly modeled look, and the knight is “surprise pikachu” because of the erratic movement of the knight often leading to unforeseen results. These changes have been made so that the pieces feel the same but have a new, more modern look. Additionally, the rules have been altered to further reflect the personality of the pieces.  These changes range from how a piece moves to adding completely new mechanics like taking one of your own pieces to remove one of the opponent’s pieces.
