We created a public installation to make the hostility of this bench with a third arm in middle more noticeable. We did this by adding four more arms and a section of the middle arm with information about anti-homeless architecture.

Project Statement

Our projects goal is to reduce the amount of cigarette butts all over central square. We will do that by having an interactive way to dispose of them so people are more inclined to dispose of them and not just throw them everywhere.

Targeted Deliverables

1. It will be interactive because people will be interacting with it by throwing cigs into it.

2. Our device will collect data by having someone throw their cigarette into this tray and letter it sit and cool down. It would display the data by showing how many cigarettes are just thrown out on the street or into flower pots or tree stumps.

3. We have narrowed it down to tree possible locations for the disposal.

4. Our device would disrupt the specific area it is put in by just being there and showing the public how much cigarette trash there is in that area.

5. It will be helping clean up the space its in. 

6. The design size would not be bigger than 1/2 the size of the table

Project Statement

The Cigarette Slide is a Cigarette disposal station that encourages people to properly dispose of their cigarette butts. We surveyed 2 areas in Central Square and found that Graffiti Alley had 134 butts and the MBTA bus stop had 250 butts (covering roughly 5% of the ground). The slide would collect and display the amount as data of how many are eliminated for being on the street. The data must be portrayed that way because the focus of the installation is to eliminate cigarette butt litter which means the installation and the data cannot be alienating to smokers because then they would not use it. 

Targeted Deliverables

1. Our device collects cigarettes,
2. Whenever a cigarette is collected, it fills a clear tube to show how many cigarettes are in the device and not on the ground
3. Outside of the bus stop.
4. Our device entices people to dispose of cigarettes properly
5. Our device shows a representation of how many cigarettes are on the floor, and how many are not due to the device.
6. Full-scale dimensions must not exceed 1/2 of your studio table

The goal of our project is to develop a understanding of the color choice in graffiti alley.

The project will also let the public see the patterns and history of colors as well as how often the art changes.

This device tracks the time and the number of people who paint at graffiti alley.

The device should use spray paint and self reporting to track the time people are painting and what colors are used.

The device must be in graffiti alley.

The device should not obstruct the wall.

The device must educate with the previous data.

The device should educate the public on the history of the wall.

Next Steps for this Project:

Develop a waterproof design of this product.

then the project would need to be put in graffiti alley to collect data.
