Plot

Setting: Gliese 581**

Year: 2347

Main Story: James Hutchinson volunteered for an experiment, he was going to test the new hive mind, He would be the first person in the world to be able to combine his DNA with animals and thus live anywhere. The experiment goes wrong and James' genetic code is deteriorating. He is slowly dying by losing brain tissue, and the only way for him to prevent that ***is to take genetic material from other beings. That was not the only mistake either, he is unable to take genetic martial without killing the subject. After he kills and absorbs someone he decides he will only kill criminals so he would have less of a felling of guilt. James lived alone so no one missed him when he took the next ship to the outer edge of the solar system where crime is abundant. He fights crime for a while taking strengths from some and just extending his life, finally he finds a enormous tardigrade which can live in any area; space, a radioactive pit, or even in the core of a planet. This resilient species has evolved so that it is immune to most types of radiation.

**This is a solar system he travels between planets we should get names for the individual planets

***we still need a way for him to discover this

Galactic Crash

Moments ago my alien starcraft crashlanded on this strange planet (the star map indicates that we are somewhere between Venus and Mars). Nobody was hurt but the craft's emergency alert beacon was smashed on a huge golden "m" atop what I can only assume to be a large waste management facility called "McDonald's." We need to retrieve the pieces to fix our beacon so the galactic tow-truck will be able to rescue us from the smelly planet. We need to do all of this without being seen by the sentient life forms here in order to avoid upsetting the delicate interstellar political balance (humans don't need to know that even aliens crash their cars), plus it might be dangerous. Obstacles I can anticipate include lights, streetlamps, dogs, humans, making too much noise, really anything that could get us caught. Wish me luck...

Robots have been developed by nomadic alien races to perform high risk jobs to decrease loss of life. One day, for an unexplained reason, the robots turned on their creators. They now attack and kill any aliens they come across. The three alien races join forces against the robots. You are a criminal locked up in a ship when the robots attack. You wake up with massive gaps in your memory. After you escape, the alliance leaders approach you for help. You are sent on missions to take out the robots' leaders and sabatoge their war effort. After a few missions, you discover that the robots were reprogrammed and can be turned back. The next levels include good robots that help you fight the hacked ones. Eventually evidence shows that you are the cause of the evil robots. The alliance sends all the ships they can muster to attack the station with you onboard. You rush to find the main control room. After defeating the final boss, a horde of robots rushes in and you are killed. The aliens end up victorious because of your actions.

Because of a new wave of interest in technological advancement starting in the late 2120’s the human race began pouring more and more money, resources, and manpower into many of the STEM subjects, with many people leaving fields in the humanities and manual jobs such as farming. Thanks to this change in mentality, over the last twenty years that humanity was on Earth, technological advancement was rampant, while everything else, including food production and environmental safety, was quickly dwindling, leading to the evacuation of Earth to an orbiting space station in 2141. In the year 2142, the first expedition into the city of Cypher, a team of human volunteers was sent down to activate a system in the capital building that would help clear the polluted atmosphere of Earth. However, the air of the planet was more polluted than previously thought, being toxic to most organic life, leading to the deaths of all members of the team. Now, in the year 2146, roughly fives years after the evacuation, the second mission to the planet below is being sent. This expedition would use a mechanical operative, instead of human ones. The machine will be a  M.A.B., or Mechanical Assistance Bot, originally designed to be a sort of “nanny bot”. It has been repurposed for use in this mission, and will be controlled remotely from a station. However, Jason Ivey, one of the main developers of the M.A.B. back on Earth, and the man who would be controlling the M.A.B., implanted a more advanced A.I. into the M.A.B. so that it could solve problems from the ground more efficiently than Jason could solve from space. He could also use it to test the new A.I. he had developed. And so, with its new A.I., the M.A.B., perhaps the human race’s last chance of survival, will soon be sent to the planet down below to hopefully make our home safe for life once again.

John Smith and Rig/Animation List

Kajsa Cohen

Today we learnt how to Unity and discussed what the definition of Science Fiction is and how it merges with fantasy, e.g. Is Star Wars sci-fi or fantasy? Then we discussed the aim of our game and basic objectives and plot as well as settings. What elements of the game would make it sci-fi and how we could use consoles or the arrow keys and ‘wasd’ for a multiple controller. We came to the conclusion that our game would be about a man named John Smith who loses his heart and must kill people to stay alive whilst trying to save the star system he is in. He travels throughout the solar system to different planets and moons where, on his way to save the solar system fights enemies. It’s going to be a fighter game and possibly multiplayer (unsure about this). We also discussed the characteristics of John Smith, his back story, reason for him being the protagonist and general information about the character as well as the universe that he lives in.

Day 1

Today we learned a bit about how to use Unity and began brainstorming. We spent the morning downloading software and playing around with Unity. After lunch, we talked about what makes something science fiction and split into groups. Our group decided to do a sort of pre-apocalyptic world where the player's actions end up causing the apocalypse. It is set in a world where all energy relies on the sun in some way. However, the sun has become a white dwarf and the planet is now suffering from a full blown energy crisis.
