Games & Magic in Baton Rouge

Saba Ghole

NuVu is on the road and setting up our studio at Episcopal High School in Baton Rouge this summer. The theme is Games and Magic, and we are getting set for three weeks of fun creating and playing games. We'll have a combination of high school and middle school students participating in the studio as well as teachers. Our first task for the weekend before the workshop was unpacking and setting up the 10 team stations with all the basic tools needed for the workshop: soldering iron, cutting mat, rulers, utility knife, glue gun, glue sticks, scissors, pencils, wire strippers, and flush cutters. Equipped with these basic tools, a creative spirit, a collaborative mindset, and some fun-loving and expert NuVu coach-mentors, the teams will be set to design, experiment, create and learn!

The studio was humming of multiple sounds from the blobs of the iMat creatures popping to the sonic tones of the Music Box to the piano chords of the Soundscape to the moving Kinetic Chandelier. iMat: interactive brain-game-art piece

Deckin' The Halls

Video and Photos by Stephen Phillips and Angelo Cabral Nothing sparks excitement in the eyes of little boys and girls like the anticipation of Christmas. The joy the holiday season brings is made apparent by neon lights, Christmas trees, and even giant inflatable characters. People go to extreme lengths in some cases to decorate their houses and lawns in an effort to create an atmosphere as festive as possible. Suburban houses are often the most impressively lit and decorated, mostly due to the advantage in area they have over the apartments and lofts in the city. Driving though suburban neighbor hoods, the holiday spirit is apparent through the gleaming lights carefully lined on the gutters and figures of Santa and his reindeer on the lawns. These photos are a reflection of the effort put into these decorations and the expression they display.

Scratch Day

Eric started the day by showing a little bit about Scratch and the PicoBoard. The students were asked to design musical instruments which they could interact with using their body.

After that, students jumped to the table to prototype their ideas.

Glimpse Into The Future

Saba Ghole
We had our first reviews of the Fall trimester last Friday. Students enthusiastically presented and discussed their projects with the outside critics and other students. The projects showed some glimpses into a "possible" future, powered by fusion energy, and shaped by what we grow on a nano scale.
