Deconstructed Earth

By Cole Krivak

Deconstructed earth depicts what our planet in the far future could look like.  Humanity has decided to make a dyson sphere, but the only place with enough resources to make it is earth. So the Earth is in the process of being completely mined.

Using Blender to make and most of the assets, and using Quixel bridge to get the rocks and landscape textures they can be brought into Unreal Engine.  Where this scarred version of the planet can be made, and make it possible to see what it could look like if and event of this scale were to happen.

Leather Working Skills Spring 2021

Leather Working Skills

Spring 2021

During the spring open innovation period, I looked into working on skill-based projects because many of my recent projects have been heavily conceptually based. Originally I was looking into splitting this time period into three separate projects, but the project that I started working on first ended up taking up most of my time in OI. The project that I ended up working on and completing, was making a leather wallet. During this process, I learned how to reverse engineer a previous wallet design that I liked, turn that into a pattern, as well as learning how to use a sewing machine, as I had never done that before. In the end, I ended up with a product that I am quite happy with, which is a wallet with canvas made of plastic with a leather exterior.

Cedrix

Faith Field and Miriam Lourie

Cedrix is an animated trailer that explores a possible near future world. After a great oil shortage, scientists around the world work to create geothermal mining industries in the deep sea to supplement the energy shortages. One day while searching for a new location for geothermal mining, a submarine breaks through into an unexplored part of the ocean that holds a unique intelligent life form, Cedrix. Scientists are left with the decision on whether or not to reveal this creature to the rest of the world, or to learn from previous mistakes and protect Cedrix, and their habitat from exploitation.Cedrix illustrates the damages that human industries such as mining have had on the natural environment, and the ways greed has been used to exploit the Earth. As humans look to the future, it is imperative to consider the burden of their needs on society, and how to limit their impact on the rest of the world. Cedrix can be enjoyed by all audiences, but specifically targets the younger audience, who will not only be drawn to the animation and narrative style, but will also be most likely to be influenced by this film to shape their future decisions.

Ring Market

Ring Market

Ring Market is a farmer's market floating through space that traders and tourists visit to shop and see entertainment. Ring Market allows for a simple solution to the long descent down onto a planet's surface.

The market consists of two rings spinning opposite each other to create centrifugal force and simulate gravity where the market stalls would be. In addition, the market also has a landing dock leading to the entrance/exit of the market. The gravity simulated would be very similar to that of earth removing the health concerns of gravity in space.

Scroll Through Space is a convenient, accessible way to enjoy and experience reading without carrying around a paper book. This amazing new way to read will expand the options for where people take a book and how people read. Scroll Through Space takes a traditional e-reader and makes it more compact through a rolling screen. This creates a way to easily carry around a few hundred books in the users back pocket. The e-reader extends from a scroll device and when the user is done using it, it rolls back up automatically. This makes a easily accessible yet compact device. In addition to portability, tools such as haptic feedback, gifs, smell dispensers and changing temperatures were utilized to create a more exciting and immersive reading experience.

A breif breif

Luke Gunter

In this project, my team explored the use of storytelling through a video game design. We created a game the game on a 2d platformer in an open world with a changing environment. The platforming and 2d factor were arbitrary to our exploration, but we found the open world characteristics allowed us to explore how we can tell a rich story through player interaction. One example of this ability was the ways in which characters were able to explore and unlock new areas based on actions they took in the open world. As the user explores the different sections of the world,  they collect crystals, which change the textures of some areas, and unlock other new areas for the player.
