Mimic App

Trevor McDonald

The Mimic App

Have Fun Make Mistakes

Mimic is an interactive app that allows you to try and mimic something that someone else made without instructions. Mimic is a fun, hands-on activity where you can try to mimic several different things and solve difficult puzzles while having fun with family and friends.

While everyone is stuck at home, everyone's life gets boring, and when people are bored they tend to go on their phones. Since everyone’s life has become digital this app allows you to still have some parts digital but the real fun is hands-on and in person. This app is a way where people could attempt to build something that has no instructions, struggle, laugh, have fun, and feel productive with friends and family. Inside the app, people could try to mimic something by themselves, work on one with a friend, or create something new and interesting for other people to try to build. If you don’t have the proper materials, no need to worry, you could try digital mode and make a mimic and post it digitally. It is an app meant for all ages and helps spark your creative mind. It also helps relieve some of the stress you're feeling during these tough times.

Aftermath:

On Friendships After Disaster

Friendships are hard to maintain, especially during a crisis like this one, and the current situation leaves us wondering; what will our lives be after this all is over? Aftermath, a post-apocalyptic zine, focuses in on a young woman, Harper, who is trying to find one her friends after the pandemic has ended.

The zine is a hand-drawn comic, highlighting the challenges of meeting others in a post-quarantine world. It follows the main character, Harper, as she travels across the Boston Area to meet her friend, Ivy. She runs into several challenges along the way, ranging from crowds to an unrecognizable city. This comic is completely hand-made, which illustrates the possibility and authenticity of the situation shown.

Building Connections

Justin Clark and Sydney Blackburn

Building Connections is an interactive art installation that allows people to make connections about how certain aspects of their life make them feel. This allows people in their community to come together and build a sense of unity by anonymously responding to thought-provoking prompts. Over time as more and more people place Legos; the installation grows and reflects the community's feelings and lifestyle.

Each Lego has a different color that represents a different emotion. For example, red is anger, yellow is happiness, blue is sad, etc. Each category represents possible aspects of the participant's life (school, money, family, the future, etc.). Community members are asked to assign an emotion to each category representing how it makes them feel.

As several people begin to fill up the installations it is noticed that several categories contain different emotions; gathering a multitude of opinions to develop an intriguing interactive art piece.

On this site, people from all over the world and local communities can view the data collected from each installation site as well as participating in the art piece themselves. Users will also be able to chat with people who feel the same way about the provided topics, thus helping them to build connections.

Open Innovation: Week One

Even though our projects are starting now, the deadline to the end of the term is fast approaching. We have three weeks to work on and refine our projects into deep representations of process and story.

Some of your coaches might be new to your project, so please complete the following:

  1. Please describe where your project is currently. What were you working on in your past studio and where have you ended up.
    1. If you're working on a new project, please restate your project pitch and list some of your inspirations.
  2. What are some options that you want to brainstorm and pursue in the topic? Have you thought of anything over the weekend that would add to it? We will be doing more brainstorming in the future, even if you have a clear vision already!
  3. Above is a goals calendar. We would like you to set goals for yourself and your coaches every week for this calendar. This will be a living document for you and your coaches.
    1. Please fill out what your goals per day for the rest of the week (as far as you can think ahead)
