Reactivewear is a product that is centered around fighting the approval of the Willow Project and the environmental effects that will come with it. We wanted to link fashion with protesting the Willow Project because of the short-lived recognition it got on social media, despite it being a landmark decision that will create a dependency on fossil fuels for the United States. Our product will be a full-length piece of clothing made primarily out of trash bags. Our final draft of our project (which is not finished) will include eco-friendly trash bags that are made out of corn silk and less wasteful adhesives such as resin. The prototype that we currently have is made out of generic trash bags but will be the exact same size and style as our final draft.
The people who will be wearing this product will be protesters who would like to model by contacting the protest organizers. We will supply the entire costume to the protest, and we will try to highlight the way that the outfit may stand out by encouraging people to post it on social media. This will draw attention back to this cause and pressure lawmakers to reconsider their support. The message behind the veiling that you may see on the prototype is symbolism to how oil is shielding our future, and getting rid of this shield will only be possible by bringing down the Willow Project and its generation harm.
