My simplified version of Pular Corda consists of one motor attatched to a wall of cardboard and a wire that is bent into a jump rope shape. The motor will spin the wire resulting in a jump rope motion while the goal of the game is to get the ball to jump over the rope.
1. What are the challenges the player(s) face? Hitting the wire with the ball.
2. What actions can they take to overcome those challenges? Practing timing with the ball.
3. What can players do to affect each other? Not much. More of a single person game.
4. Is the game replayable many times without becoming "just the same" over and over? Yes because they will learn new times to test the ball.
5. Is the game fair? Yes.
6. What is the "essence" of the game? (low level eg. skills, high level eg concepts-ideas) The essence of the game is the gained coordination and timing skills
The most important part of Pular Corda (jump rope) is being able to time it correctly to not hit the rope. I took that importance and simplified it for something people could do with just their hands. I captured the lower level essence of the original game. It is a one person game in this version so that takes away a lot of the social benefits the real pular corda has.
Questions:
Is there a popular song that is commonly sung in Brazil that we should include in this game?
Do only kids play this game or are there other similar games to this that adults may play?
The rythmizer captures the movement and the rythm all into one game from the popular activity Pular Corda in Brazil.
Today we received a lot of feedback. The most important response we got is that we must include some kind of action in our game. Instead of just having a drum that each player beats to, we decided incorporte more activities. One player will beat a drum, one will jump a rope, one will stomp their feet, and one will clap their hands. We transformed our game so that each player is doing a different action, however they have to do each of these actions with the beat of the song.
We disregarded the comment about making our game more simple. If this game is to simple then there is not really a reason to play it.
