Photosensitivity, in reference to a more intense form of light sensitivity, affects anywhere from 5 - 20% of the population. Despite this, most lights aren't accommodating to this, having no option for a dimmer, or some bulbs even worsening the effects of light sensitivity. Verity, also being affected by photosensitivity, requested a solution to this. what they need in a lamp, and what's not necessary but a nice addition.
Illuminate Solution is a design for a more accommodating light, using the information given from Verity’s firsthand experience with photosensitivity. The “Bulb” is simple, being a Neopixal LED light strip, with a button switching between warm or cool light. Most LED lights flicker, turning on and off repeatedly faster than human eyes can pick up. This makes people with photophobia more likely to have headaches as the light is on. The Illuminate Solution avoids this by maintaining a consistent light. The lampshade for this product is designed to work similarly to window blinds. Using a cord, the lampshade can be pulled tight, folding in on itself, or be loose, and let the lampshade unfold. Using the folded paper to block light, this acts as a dimmer, while utilizing a visually interesting form.
