Cinemagraph

Our film is an amalgamation of cinema-graphs. Our theme was growth; we chose to begin with an ant, and from there our subject grew physically until it reached space. The objective of a cinemagraph is to highlight small yet significant motion in a still frame. Consequently we chose to focus on minute detail in both small and large subjects. Furthermore we chose Asceding as a tittle to introduce the concept that our film explored.

In the first few days of this studio we learned how to make cimegraphs and how to take good pictures/videos. We learned about lighting and compostion, as well as some basic After Effects. We decided that our final cinemagraphs would be compiled into a movie, and not shown as a series. Becaue of this we needed to brainstorm how to tie the whole thing together and draw a connection between the individual scenes. After much thought, we settled on creating a movie ascending to greatness. Starting with an ant and going all the way up into space would help the viewers see that the world is gigantic and that they are like ants relative to outer space and the universe. We went around the Boston area filming things big and small to compile into one final interesting and moving video.

NuCinemagraphs

Abi Tenenbaum

Cinemagraphs are movies where everythng is frozen except for one element. They help people notice things in the scene that they wouldn't have otherwise, and they bring the story of the picture to life. I spent one day at the end of this studio trying to capture the spirit of NuVu in a couple of cinemagraphs. I wanted to include scenes ranging from 3D printing to coding working in the shop and coding, as well as a few other means of working on and creating a project.

What Is A Cinemagraph?

Sophia Friedfertig and Abi Tenenbaum

A cinemagraph is a sort of mix between a movie and a photo and it brings out the best in both. A cinemagraph is a looping scene or action where one thing is moving and everything else is frozen. This helps attract people's attention to something they may not have previously noticed. It brings the scene alive, defines new limits to explore, and creates a new dimension for your imagination to roam free in.

Why Humans of Cambridge?

Micaela Pierce

We chose to make a series of cinemagraphs that had to do with the people of Cambridge. As we walked around taking videos for the movie portion of our project we realized that there are so many different interesting people around Cambridge and decided that capturing them would make for great cinemagraphs. The reason taking videos of the people in Cambridge was so great is because there’s so much diversity and there are constantly activities going on. When we started taking videos of people we didn’t always capture the best moments. By the end of the studio we were finding great moments that would be hard to capture in just a picture. This is the beauty of a cinemagraph. We came to the  realization that cinemagraphs can capture the beauty of a picture and video and put them into one. After going out so many times we noticed that we were able to judge what would make for a good cinemagraph and what would make for a cinemagraph that would make for an okay one. Choosing People of Cambridge made for an amazing series of Cinemagraphs that really capture what the city is all about.
