Welcome to the Nutopian Fashion studio page :)

Once your material kit arrives in the mail, complete the two pre-studio activities posted below.

Before our first day of studio, please collect these additional items:

1. Clothes to upcycle! Choose 3-5 garments that you are comfortable cutting up and re-purposing. Try to include at least one top and one bottom that still fit *relatively* well (they can be too big, but not too small). The rest can be any size (except baby clothes...that won't give you much fabric to work with). Let us know if you don't have anything that you can use at home.

2. Recycled materials for prototyping. Think cereal boxes, translucent plastic jugs and bottle caps, packaging and ribbon with interesting patterns/colors/textures, leftover craft supplies, etc.

3. Regular scissors (the ones in your kit are for fabric only!!)

4. (OPTIONAL) Hot glue gun and hot glue sticks. This will make your life easier when we get into prototyping.  

5. Big paper! Anything from leftover wrapping paper to brown packaging paper works, as long as it has a blank side. You can even use an unfolded paper bag! If you don't have this collected for day 1, that's ok. We will use it later on in the week.

6. Recycled materials for stuffing. Think bubble wrap, packaging, old linens, newspaper, plastic or paper bags, etc.

7. A clothes iron and ironing board or towel. (please make sure you learn how to use this before class starts)

8. A "tripod" for the device you will be using to take photos (phone or tablet). If you don't have one at home, you can try making one like these or this. 

Materials Needed:

2-3 Rolls of Duct Tape (one is included in your kit! you can try other types of tape as well, just note that it has to hold a shape)

An old T-shirt or garbage bag (cut out head and armholes)

Plastic Wrap/Plastic Bag (to cover neck area)

Scissors (NOT the ones in your kit - those are for fabric only!!)

Cardboard Circles (from the kit, to cover the arm and neck holes when you are done)

Old linens/bags to stuff the mannequin (I used bed sheets that I'll take out after the class)

Prompt: Follow the video to make a DIY dress form/mannequin. You will definitely need help from an adult for this! 

Tips - Don't tape too tightly, you can always smooth out the mannequin later. When taping, try to follow the curves of the body.

If you encounter connection issues or are missing components, you can comment on this post and we will make sure you get what you need!

If you have used the NuVu Platform before AND you remember your password, then skip to STEP 4 and 5. If this is your first time using the Platform or if you have forgotten your password, then follow all of the steps below. 

STEP 1: In the top-right corner, click the word "login." 

STEP 2: When the black menu appears, click "reset password," and enter your school email address, and then click "Send Password Reset Link."

STEP 3: Check your school email account for an email from NuVu. Be sure to check your junk email folder as well if you don't see the email in your inbox. Follow the instructions in the email to reset your password.

STEP 4: You should now see your name in the top right corner. Success! (your screen will look slightly different than mine). Under "Studios" click on our current studio, "Cyborg Enhancements". You can also find this studio by clicking on your name in the top right corner.

STEP 5: You are now on the landing page for our studio for the rest of the term! To let me know that you have succeeded in making it this far, make a celebratory comment under the post "comment here!" This post will only appear if you have logged in successfully. 

Welcome to Arduino!

The first step in learning Arduino is to download the software.  This can be found at arduino.cc.  There are the step by step instructions in the images above.  

It is recommended to make sure that the install has worked by opening the arduino app on your computer.  In our next tutorial, we will go through how to use this interface and connect it to your physical Arduino device.

NOTE

If you have a chromebook, you will not be able to use this method and instead will need to create an account on Arduino Create to gain access to the web editor version.
