Innovation Camp 2019 - Info

Big Picture Schedule

Saba Ghole

During our Big Picture Innovation Camp, participants will have the opportunity to experience NuVu’s studio-based model and learn how coaches/students engage in collaborative problem solving. We’ll explore current movements and ideas impacting education (PBL, Maker Movement, Design Thinking, Tinkering), and you’ll learn about the new tools, materials and technologies (both analog and digital) that are changing education. We’ll dive into the design, programming, and logistics of setting up a makerspace at various sizes and budgets; and how, when, and what technologies to integrate. As a group, we’ll brainstorm ways of inculcating a culture of creativity, innovation, and invention; and explore how hands-on learning can happen across grades, ages, and gender through a culture of inclusion. During the week, participants will also gain a deeper understanding of how student projects at NuVu integrate various subjects and content areas (math, art, science, engineering, social sciences, music, history, computer science, biology) as part of a larger design goal.

Through interactive sessions, participants will have the opportunity to consult with our passionate team on how our studio methodology can be applied to:

  • Design Studios, Innovation Labs, Maker Spaces, Entrepreneurship Centers, Research & Design Centers, College-level Programs
  • K-12 Programs (STEM, STEAM, Project-based Learning, Global Leadership, Design Technology, Entrepreneurship)
  • Curricular Areas (Math, Science, Art, Biology, Robotics, History, Social Science, etc.)

Schedule

DAY 1: NuVu’s Studio Model
Participants will learn about NuVu’s studio model and pedagogy in depth. There will be opportunities for discussion of this pedagogy within the larger educational context. The day will also include a mini-challenge to get everyone’s creative juices flowing.

DAY 2-4: In-School Focus
Through interactive sessions and support from the NuVu Team, participants will have the opportunity to collaboratively reflect on the studio experience and the challenges and opportunities it creates in different learning environments. We’ll brainstorm ways of developing makerspaces or innovation labs within the school, and the tools and resources needed to support them. We’ll also discuss our planning process around studios and how to integrate a studio-based curriculum at various scales. Participants will also spend time developing an actionable plan of how to integrate a project idea, framework or module into their school or personal context.

DAY 5: Making Methodologies & Reflection
The NuVu Team will share methods for making, including the use of specific tools and equipment as they relate to NuVu's design process. Participants will have the opportunity to collaboratively reflect on the studio experience, share their ideas and plans, and get feedback.
