Modern presentations

Presentations usually look like this right? Big block of text that you are probably done reading in your head already, even though I'm going to spend the next 5 minutes reading it aloud. Stock picture with a corporate art style that only half relates to the idea. Statistically, you've already forgotten half of what I've said.

We decided to hone into the public speaking aspect, so we did some research into what people have already done. Canva and other slide creators with AI tools are good for making slides, but they don't help you present them. Poised is a program that aims to give you real time presenting help, yet it is geared towards online presentations like zoom calls, and is a paid product.

P.R.E.S analyzes public speaking

P.R.E.S helps public speaking with a myriad of body language analyses.

Scope/proposal

Body tracking: Seeing how much they gesture and watch people to see if they read off of the slide show

Voice/Word detector: Acknowledges how fast people talk, the intonation of their voice, and when they use filler words (um, like, etc)

This helps students prepare for the full NuVu collaborative experience.

Eye contact and confidence engages the audience

We researched what makes a presentation truly engaging.

• Maintaining eye contact: Engaging with a few individuals around the room creates a sense of connection.

• Having confidence: Standing tall with good posture projects assurance and authority.

• Minimizing filler words: Avoiding unnecessary pauses or words disrupts the flow of your message.

These are some of the previous versions of our program. At first, we focused on just having the code output to a webpage so we could get the code working first. Later, we focused on making the code nicer to look at, and added some things to simplify it.

While we are technically done with our project, there is much more we could do.

We have made what could technically be a considered product, yet we all know that if we had more work time, there would be more to do. If we continued, our todo list would include: Detecting filler words to encourage more varied speaking, enhancing our eye tracking to be able to tell if the user is reading off their slides, detecting the tempo and tone of the presenter, and giving a more detailed analysis for our end users so they receive more feedback.

About Client's Needs & Client's Insights

Welo's clients want many things, but one of the most repeated ones was collaboration. The users wanted to have an easier time collaborating and one of the things they said they wanted was a customizable space.

About Collaboration

Currently, Welo is often used for smaller groups, to be more available for impromptu meetings, which works well on Welo currently. However, it is very difficult to do larger meetings when you haven't prepared for it, as most spaces don't have huge individual rooms. The space editor can help with this, being able to change rooms around on the fly.

Welo Space Editor

In this video you can see placing down stools to show how difficult to use the Welo space editor is. Even after 18 months in development, you still can't place something down freely, it places down wherever it appears in the selection menu and you have to move it from there.

User Journey - Before

Currently people have a set space and number of seats, and if they want to get more seats they need to contact an admin.

Thesis Statement

Grelo is a grid snapping space editor made in Unity designed to expand Welo's uses, specifically built to be able to make spaces from scratch.

Now people can start a meeting, and if they are short on seats they open the editor and place one in themself.

In this video you can see placing down a foundation with cube, placing chairs, and then placing tables. There is also the ability to highlight and move blocks

Reflections

Making it so that you could place objects was hard, mostly because we were using raycasting and making sure all colliders were working properly took a while.

Next steps

We would want to add the ability to rotate object and move your camera around. As well as getting more assets and allowing the user to bring in their own assets.

Welo is a community platform designed to improve collaboration between online employees by making it feel more immersive, having a physical space in the virtual world.

Client Insights

We learned from the clients that they really like what Welo has done so far on the Space Editor, but they'd like to have more customizability, such as being able to make a space entirely from scratch.

About Collaboration

Currently Welo has a space where you can talk and interact, which is slightly more immersive than zoom, but that is about it. We want to add to/improve their space editor to give a more wide range of ways to use the space.

How can we improve the customizability of Welo spaces for people who work from home so that they can build their own space.

• Welo's space editor has been in development for 18 months and is now in closed beta
• They plan to have 3 levels of permission for use of the editor, the first would be permission to add or remove a seat, or change a room in a similarly small way. The second would be to be able to change the size of a room, or the layout of a space, but in a smaller way. The third level would be the ability to completely make a space from scratch.
