Fantastical Biology III
By Max F & Andrew Perticone and honorary thanks to Orion (GOAT)
Why
An audio-visual experience based on the world of fantastical biology that has been worked on for 2 iterations that can tie in with the website I made last OI
How
To spark interest in biology through whimsical and fantastical elements in life-long learners.
What's New?
-Compared to the first iteration, this one will focus more on the biological features of the animals, and not about the lore of the world they live in.
-Focus on completely original creatures instead of already existing ones
-An Audio Visual experience allowing the user to get immersed more immersed in the world we have created
-One new creature for a total of 4 unique designs

By Orion Orozco & Andrew Perticone
Why
An interactive website with all new creatures that have extensive biological details/how they relate to real creatures and worldbuilding.

As the field of prosthetics evolves, it not only offers solutions for replacing lost limbs but also opens new avenues for augmenting human capabilities beyond their natural boundaries. The 'Third Thumb' project epitomizes this shift, representing a convergence of robotics, and design to enhance the human body's functionality. 'Third Thumb' aims to redefine human potential by enabling users to perform complex tasks with unprecedented ease and efficiency, thus challenging traditional perceptions of disability and augmentation. By focusing on the integration of this technology with the human sensory-motor system, the Third Thumb project not only demonstrates the tangible benefits of advanced prosthetics in improving everyday life but also explores the future possibilities of human-machine symbiosis.
JIHUI
Noelle Aminoff + Verity Gould
Thesis
In the lore of World of Warcraft, Jihui is mentioned as being a game about finding a satisfactory conclusion with the opponent, such as a stalemate. Unfortunately, we have found no real-world equivalent of this game. We made this project to explore the interesting concept behind the game and encourage discussions of real-world peacemaking.

PERSEPHONE VR
Thesis Statement
Persephone VR, born from a hobbyist initiative, aims to provide open-source VR hardware that matches mainstream performance without compromise allowing for freedom of replication and modification of tech. While the broader vision includes a unified system of controllers, headsets, and tracking, our immediate goal is a high-fidelity and easily reproducible VR headset on the level of the Oculus Quest 2.
The Problem
Facebook and other major entities are employing problematic black box technology to carve out a monopolistic VR landscape. This not only stifles personal creativity and expression but raises serious concerns about overarching control and suppression.
Precedents
Slime VR is an open source full body IMU tracking project currently with open pre orders as well as full DIY documentation.
Relativity VR is a open source project to develop and manufacture a freely hackable headset although DIY documentation is lacking.
The goal of Lucid VR was creating a working pair of hand tracking gloves for virtual reality. The design was derived from a preexisting open source design.

ADA Compliant Dress V2
2024 Spring OI Exhibition
Coffy Lessig & Noelle Aminoff
Project Statement
ADA compliant dress is a statement piece designed to allow able people to experience the constant worry of being unable to access environments as a disabled person. The main features of the dress, which make it impossible to maneuver if conditions are not met, are the width of doorways, as well as the height and angle of handrails. When the dress creates a conflict in a non compliant area, it creates a scene for bystanders which makes them curious about accessibility in their spaces, and shows the wearer of the dress just how inaccessible our world is.

Play-do
2024 Spring OI Exhibition
Rajveer P.
Project Statement
Play-do is an inclusive playscape designed for individuals with sensory processing disorders, autism, and similar conditions. It features four rooms focused on tactile sensory therapy, providing even pressure along the body for soothing. Additionally, there's a playground accessible via climbing nets or stairs. While these spaces are made with the needs of sensory sensitive or under sensitive people in mind, it is a free and collaborative space that welcomes everyone, fostering play without stigma and encouraging consideration of each other's needs.

Many high-schoolers don’t understand the expectations, courses, and mindset needed for certain jobs. Additionally, people who have taken courses don’t always know what jobs they can do. We want to create a website where people enter what they enjoy or what courses they have taken to get a list of jobs.
How Will This Help?
Each job includes statistics on:
This will help students figure out which are close by, which jobs they enjoy, and which pay well.

How It Was Coded
Main Struggles
Most of our struggles were due to tedious work that came from debugging the code. We also had multiple tasks where only person could work on that was needed before other tasks could be completed.

How we Overcame These Struggles
We worked really far in advance so that the project could keep moving. We also found that resources like Chat GPT and Stack Overflow could help a lot with efficiently doing tedious tasks and fixing code. Such tedious tasks were:
