Genderqueer history through the ages

"Queer history and its importance."

Bean & Kody

This project is an object that asks the user to step out of their comfort zone to truly confront ideas of gender and learn about their personal ideas of gender. Filled with macabre imagery and uncomfortable texture, the user must peel back layers of identity to learn about different stories and aspects of transitioning that they may not have known about previously. We aim to leave people with a sense of understanding of how deeply gender is tied to identity while also sympathy for those who never receive a chance to feel like themselves.

Parallel Processing

By Nick and Isa

Parallel Processing is a generative multiplayer experience designed to provide a fun and enjoyable experience to all users regardless of the amount of time spent on the game. Parallel Processing is a first-person shooter where players use a number of movement mechanics to traverse a procedurally generated arena and capture each other’s flags. The enjoyability of the experience stems from the game increasing the challenge and reward for skilled players while augmenting the experience for unskilled players in order to aid them with learning. The hope is that these dynamics will make the player spend less time on screens that can hurt their mental health and reduce the obsession and addictiveness with games by decreasing the power quota.

The experience of a player playing Parallel Processing begins with a menu screen. From here, the player can choose to host a game or join an existing game. There is no online matchmaking as the game is only designed to be played with friends for enjoyment rather than as a solution for boredom or a coping strategy. This will help prevent unhealthy relationships between the users and their computers. Once the player has started or joined an existing match, they may choose between a series of game modes and begin the game. Each game usually consists of two teams of players using movement mechanics and laser pointers to either reach an end goal or disable their opponents. A game consists of ten rounds. At the end of each round or on a player's death, the player weights are recalculated causing player statistics and the arena setup to be tweaked. Each individual player’s skill is then calculated using a pattern recognition algorithm and stored in a database on a dedicated computer.

Yggdrasil Keynote Presentation

The goal for Yggdrasil is to showcase projects that best represent NuVu's core values(Innovation, Empathy, Design, Impact) as well as to bring attention to the currently disorganized, poorly designed project wall that is constructed near the front door.

Yggdrasil

Nuvu is a sanctuary for creativity and innovation, and the students that learn here produce impressive and impactful work every day. Sadly, most of these projects go under the radar as after the final presentation they get swept and have no place to be appreciated. Currently, the project wall is disorganized and does not display and showcase the best of NuVu. As new students here at NuVu innovation school, we thought that this was inappropriate and sought to improve the space by adding our input into what could replace the boring, out-of-place glass shelves in use today.

YGGDRASIL

By: Chloe Goodman + Munther Elsayed

This project, Yggdrasil, is an organized space that aims to showcase past projects from fellow NuVu students and motivate current students. Although there was already a space to display pst projects, feedback showed that it was complicated, cluttered, and disorderly. This is where the idea of Yggdrasil was born. Yggdrasil was designed to be an easy-to-understand, eye-catching way of demonstrating the core values of NuVu and showcasing the projects themselves.

It was also meant to be a motivator for current students to challenge and push themselves harder in order to flaunt their projects. Yggdrasil is named, fittingly, after the World Tree in Norse Mythology since the project I shaped like a tree. There are nine branches - to match the nine worlds - each presenting projects that are specifically chosen with these values in mind; the design itself, the impact of the project, the empathy, and the innovation and creativity that went into the project.

Sunrise, Sunsit incorporates the pleasure of watching a sunset or sunrise, sitting down while also providing an intricate aspect of shade. This permits park guests to enjoy the beautiful environment of LakeBonnet, mesmerized by the ecosystems and the kinetic machine that we replicated. The simple mechanism only requires a rotation of the bottom (large) gears, connected to the top (small) gears by a rope chain, revolving the dowel that withholds the panels.
