The Social Value is a project which memorializes the current financial culture/environment and some of its fragility through satire.
Project Statement
Who: These pieces are representing people belonging to generation z, and is designed for an audience of future teens so that they can reflect on this time and this form of media and let it inform their new cultural norms. More specifically, these objects are a statement on our current corporate world and the customs that occur as a result.
When/Where: These objects are meant for future generations to view throughout daily life. They are functional but are mainly meant for decorative purposes. The point of these objects is that they seem mundane and can easily be overlooked, but they also convey a sense of nostalgia and be a catalyst for reflective thought about the time of gen z and how we used satire to make light of a monumental time in terms of currency.
Why/Impact: It's meant to preserve and commemorate a digital culture that is largely unpreservable for future generations. It's speaking of the culture of turning what's going on in our world into satire, and what messages we can express with that form of media.
Emotional Response: The piece is meant to invoke thought about how we use satire to bring light to certain situations. Does it have a negative impact? A positive one? What is the purpose of memes?
Design Language:
Our objects all take a modern form, with clean lines that create abstract shapes. However, they also incorporate elements from ancient forms of currency by implementing dotted and lined textures like you would find near the edges of a coin. Additionally, all objects will be made in colors typically assoiciated with money (gold, copper, and silver).
