Eco Stilt House

Eco Stilt House is an interactive model of future housing. The model responds to challenges created by rising sea levels, and allows for a more self-sustaining lifestyle. Floor layouts can be customized by whoever uses the model to fit their own personal preferences, then AR can be used to bring the model to life.

Project Inspiration

Chrysalis is a communal living space created to foster bonds between the youth and the old. It's a two-story cabin style home, the first floor being amenities and the second-floor being private living. A greenhouse is attached, enclosing a butterfly garden which gives older people responsibilities, like tending to the garden and caring for the butterflies, while children can play inside.

Our final project in this studio was a customizable apartment puzzle structure with an emphasis on urban farming. AR brings to life the planters and garden to put a creative modern spin on the classic dollhouse.

Inclusive Housing in Play

We created a two story commercial and residential building located in New York City. The first floor is a old fashioned pizza restaurant with a dining area and kitchen. On the second floor, there is a bedroom and an open patio. Lastly, on the top floor there is a roof deck with a garden and seating area.

Urban Farmhouse Brief

Urban Farmhouse: An apartment tower with integrated garden spaces and an AR animated component for a creative modern spin on the traditional dollhouse.

The classic old victorian suburban dollhouse has been a staple in many people's childhood. From cute shutters to antique cabinets, intricate toy homes have glorified the lives of the wealthy, and have not been an accurate representation of many children's homes growing up. The Urban Farmhouse was designed to be a modern abstracted take on an apartment building. The frame is built to be a puzzle -- tasking the child with placing units in numerous configurations. The frame is constructed with wood and pegs, making it fully construct-able and deconstructable. The units are crafted with clear acrylic, allowing the child full autonomy with how to customize the spaces. It also removes the gender connotations with dollhouses by using a simple color scheme, and untraditional expectations of play. The dollhouse comes with a garden kit and small planters. Using an augmented reality filter on a phone, the plants come to life, displaying juicy tomatoes and full fruit. The aim is to incorporate urban farming and education around sustainable food practices. The toy can be both a tool for conversations around food desserts and urban agriculture efforts, as well as a place for play and creativity.
