Thesis

Clermont: A Murder Mystery is a murder mystery visual novel following a group of teens who are investigating the murder of a woman in their town. The game is made in Ren'py and all the art is created in Photoshop and Procreate.

Maize

Maize is the protagonist and player character of Murder Mystery. She's very smart and resourceful- Maize takes advantage of her environment by observing the people around her carefully.

Maize is accused of the murder, despite having not committed any crimes EVER. She's also an aspiring writer and spends her time working on a book or her poetry.

Eight Point Structure

1. Stasis

• You find the body of the victim

2. Trigger

• You become a suspect in the case.

3. The Quest

• You set out to prove your innocence.

4 . The Surprise

• The police tell you you're no longer a suspect but your friend is.

5 . Critical Choice

• You're asked if you will investigate by a friend of the victim's. (no will be a game end.)

6 . Climax

• You investigate the crime scene after the police have left.

7 . Reversal

• You accuse the murderer.

8 . Resolution

• The murderer is arrested and your name is cleared.

Opening Sequence

Maize, and Fleur are hauling halloween decor all around the houses in town. They’re almost done- they’ve reached the last house they needed to bring stuff too. The lights are on. When Fleur knocks on the door, she doesn’t get a response. 

FLEUR: The lights are on. Would Ms. Cranburry be asleep?

MAIZE: Maybe.. But it’s 3 pm. No one would sleep right now.. It’s way too late into the day. 

FLEUR: She leaves the back door open sometimes.. Let’s go check on her.

The two make their way into the back of Ms. Cranburry’s home, leaving their decorations at her front door. Maize feels worried about this situation. They open the back door.

FLEUR: Mr Cranburry? Hello? 

They peer into the house. No noise is heard, except for the humming of the heater. They make their way into the kitchen. On the floor of the kitchen, they discover Ms. Cranburry dead. She is covered in maggots and is decomposing. 

MAIZE: What the hell!-
