Project Description Slide

Our project is an organic office space. Its main functions are creating a current and future covid safe work area. Another function the office space offers is using greenery and nature to the occupants advantage. This function can help cater to the employees' mental health as well as good air quality due to the number of plants in the space.

In the intergenerational park that we have created, we implemented many aspects of surreal design. This is shown by the monumental size of the installations in the park. Our hope is that people of all ages will be able to interact with our playscape together through the art of surrealism. We accomplished this by enlarging the size of objects in nature, the reason behind these structures is to allow for children to assess risk safely.

Thesis

The evidence is clear, spending time in nature benefits everyone physically, mentally and emotionally.

These projects were based off of the Listening Rooms studio. The goal of that studio was to create spaces for expression of music and to reimagine the concept of "venue". These projects accomplished this by recontextualizing the spatial and interactive qualities of a venue.

Songscape is inspired by the song REM by Ariana Grande. This specific song was chosen because it combines a dreamy, calming effect while still having different layers of sound to use for the design. Sampling these sounds gave my playscape the potential for fun and creative experiences, bringing together harmony, beats, and rhythm throughout the space. My vision for Songscape was to translate music into architecture.

seesaw goes from 2 different notes (Ab and F) which represent the point in the song that Ariana sings "Wake up, wake up, wake up"

the seesaw allows a person on each side of the structure to be constantly hearing different notes based on where they are on the seesaw

monkey bars represent the continuing beat throughout the song which show in the playscape by going around the entire park, and in the graphical score with repeated curves throughout

The sound for these is a pattern and not just one note, but it’s based around the note 'Eb’

play tunnel adds structure and allows ability to be able to walk through and watch/listen to the park and community

Connecting music and play, Songscape is made to provide an opportunity for people to have fun, be creative with music, and create new sounds and songs, while building a community.

Ottomans vs Spain

• Ottoman Habsburg Wars are a set of wars that happened from 1526 to 1791
• Fought because the Habsburg Dynasty, wanted to stop the expansion of the Ottoman Empire in Europe.
• The Habsburgs controlled part of modern day Spain, and were allied with the rest of it
• The dish is a combination of paella, a Spanish dish, and kofte, a Turkish/Ottoman dish
• The true resolution of the conflict/tension occurred during the start of World War One, when the two groups became allies out of necessity. 

Kofte

Ingredients

3 lbs ground beef

9 cloves crushed garlic

1 grated yellow onion

1 tsp salt

1/2 tsp ground black pepper

1/2 bunch chopped parsley

1/2 tsp paprika

1/2 tsp cayenne pepper

1/2 tsp allspice

Steps

1. Mix together in bowl,
2. Make small, flat, irregular pieces
3. Cook on grill or stovetop

Paella

1. Put 2 tbsp of olive oil, 1 finely chopped Spanish onion, 4 crushed cloves of garlic, and 2 tbsp of butter in a large pan, mix on low heat until butter is melted
2. Add 3 cups of medium grain rice, stir to coat in oil/butter
3. Mix in 1/2 bunch of chopped flat leaf parsley, 1/2 cup of peas, 1-2 pinches of saffron, 1 tsp of oregano, 1 tsp of paprika, and a chopped red bell pepper
4. add 2 quarts of chicken stock/broth, set heat to medium
5. Pan sear roughly 1 lb of shrimp/scallops
6. When the rice is done and broth is boiled off, flip pan of rice over on to a large serving platter, there should be a layer of crunchy rice on the outside
7. Arrange the seafood and kofte on top of the rice and serve

France vs Vietnam

-Vietnam was taken over by Napolean 1857 

-these colonies had many resources

-After WWII France’s hold on these territories was slipping, one of which was Vietnam 

-tensions in Vietnam were high due to political conflicts

-France tried to fight for control in North Vietnam but was drastically losing 

-On May 7th, 1954, the French garrison at Dein Bein Phu fell after besieged for four months by the Vietnamese, led by Ho Chi Minh. This marks the fall of the French in Vietnam.  

Recipe

Ingredients 

-3 oz semi-sweet chocolate 

-four eggs separated 

-1 ½  tbs unsalted butter at room temp

-½ tbs cream of tartar 

-¼ cup of sugar plus two tbs 

-nearly one teaspoon of vanilla extract 

-½ teaspoon maple extract

-around ½ cup of coffee

-Take a saucepan and add an inch of water, put on oven to simmer

-use a heatproof mixing bowl over the saucepan and mix the chocolate, coffee, and butter. Stir till smooth 

- meanwhile, beat egg whites until foamy, then add the cream tartar and beat until peaks form. Add in the ¼ cup of sugar (slowly) and continue to beat until stiff peaks form and there is little to no run

-chill a bowl then add the heavy cream and beat until it starts to thicken. Add 2 tbs of sugar and the vanilla and maple. Continue to beat until its whipped-cream like 

-take the three mixtures and fold them together (in the bowl with coffee and chocolate)

-let refrigerate overnight

Project Description Slide

The Marionette Manipulator is a device intended to be used by stage performers and hobbyists to allow the creation of more convincing and radical costumes. It is an artificial hand and forearm that can be strapped to the user's arm, allowing them to pull strings with their fingers and use the false hand. The final result would look like the user's forearm is much longer than normal, allowing for properly proportioned costumes with stilts.
