Beyond the Board is an AR board game innovating by bridging the virtual and physical worlds together. This theme was further emphasized by collaborating with peers who worked fully virtually during the development. At that point, we had the idea of creating an AR board game, so that players could have the best of both the virtual world, where anything is possible, and the physical world of board games.

An exploration of biomimicry for sustainable school design

Presentation Recording (time stamp 7:15 - 14:10): https://drive.google.com/file/d/1u-AQ4cAo8A_thZFmY5mTdqk8EtrdaZW4/view?usp=sharing

In the era of COVID-19, and the urgent need to create sustainable and responsive buildings due to climate change, re-imaging everyday societal infrastructure is essential to the well-being of the population. Now, with both the health and safety concerns, and the mental health concerns of re-opening schools, we are faced with whether or not our schools are even structurally designed to benefit the well-being of students. Time and time again, lots of sunlight and immersion with nature has been proven to lead to higher productivity, better test scores, and overall happiness amongst students.

The Armadillo school is a climate responsive learning structure that incorporates biomimicry inspired by the armadillo and flower petals to maintain thermal cooling in hot temperatures. The space allows for sunlight and immersion in the outdoors while staying cool; allowing for students to get the benefits of learning and working in the outdoors, and having a learning environment that can handle the rapidly changing climate. Using a ventilation system inspired by the armadillo shell, the space is self cooling. Florida tiling keeps the structure cool, while a frame constructed with recycled bottles, cement, and a solar reflective coating limits the amount of heat absorption. Smart glass, as well as sun-reactive smart-wood flower petals shade the space when in contact with direct sunlight. The layering of each part of the frame intensifies the breeze and castes sunlight inside the space.

Apiarian

Apiarian is an interactive board game for all ages which allows users to learn about bees and how to help them as well. The afterlife of the board game is giving off a positive note for the users and the environment since the pieces are eco-friendly and can be composted, recycled, or reused. The packaging also has a good afterlife since you can assemble it into a bee house when done using the board game.

Our project is a bioplastic replacement for bubble wrap. It can be used by anyone, thanks to its dissolubility in water and its cushioning properties. We made this project in order to help the environment, the particular reason for the circumstance being the plastic waste that is thrown into the ocean every day. Our bioplastic is edible, dissolves in water and is fun to play with. This actively demonstrates that it is safe for marine life, as well as any land-dwelling animals who might get a hold of it. To sum up everything that has been stated so far, we have made an environmentally sustainable bioplastic for the exact purpose of saving wildlife as well as the environment.

Senate Simulator

Senate Simulator is a VR experience that transports you into a simulation of the Senate where you attempt to assemble and pass a bill in a representative sample of the current Congress. The game allows you to piece together a new version of the Green New Deal. With the bill assembled, the player has the opportunity to present their bill to see how many votes it would receive. If your version doesn't pass the first time, you can then go back with a different version and try again.

This mystical monolith creates generative music through touch using neural-plasticity. It entices the user to explore and figure out how it works through it's alien shape and reactive lighting.
