Project Description Slide

Beyond the Board is an AR board game innovating by bridging the virtual and physical worlds together. This theme was further emphasized with me being fully virtual and Nate being onsite. At that point, we had the idea of developing an AR board game, so that the players could play in both the virtual world, where anything is possible, and in the physical world, where physics is the major game mechanic. Due to Nate and I being at differing locations, we decided to have me focus on the virtual realm and Nate focus on the physical realm.

• The goal of the game is to have more points than your opponent when the game ends
• The game ends when your opponent's flag is captured.
• You gain points by using your creatures to defeat your opponent's pieces.
• You also gain 10 points from stealing your opponent's flag.
• At the start of the game, you place down creatures from a deck of tiles.
• each turn, you gain action tokens which can be discarded to trigger different actions of your creatures.

Market Strategy

Stage 2: Release AR app and open up preorders for a physical board product run. Expand the characters and offer more boards for more AR games (Chess, Dungeons and Dragons, etc). Eventually get our boards in toy stores and Amazon

Stage 1: Put Digital app on the market with a paid expansion pack and advertising to raise money for Xcode and a better Augmented Reality Engine. Through direct comments, experimental updates, and game modes, get customer feedback and improve the game for AR release as well as grow social media pages to line up potential Beyond the Board buyers.

The idea for this project is to show plants taking over a city in a way to create peace in the ongoing stressful city life.

Our Process

We started by meeting with our coach Eric. They helped us brainstorm some ideas. When we decided on the vine idea we went to work on shot planning. Then we had our shots Siena got clearance to fly her drone. Then after we got the shots. We edited after almost two weeks of trial and error on the vines we got this.

Beyond the Tree is an immersive art project centered around the battle between nature and mankind and the effects of industrialization on the world around us. It pushes viewers to to be more considerate about the Earth and explores concepts about what our future may look like.

Combining my prior interest in sustainability and re-thinking community spaces, a desire to strengthen rhino + modeling skills, and Richards dedication to education reform, I decided to take an everyday classroom and redesign the space to create a sustainable environment that allows for engagement with the outside world, collaboration, and connection.

Goals/what did we make

The Garden Guide is an informative guidebook that highlights the process and benefits of staring a community garden. The Garden Guide is meant to inspire people to become more active in their own communities and either join or facilitate a community garden. The guide does not just inspire but also makes creating a community garden attainable by laying out step by step how to start one.

What was the problem

This Project was inspired by the works of Ron Finely, South Side Community Land Trust, the numerous political manifestos that have been made, and Zine culture. We wanted to make a project that would combine all of these, to make an accesible book on how to start a community garden

We want to make Gardening more accessible, to the communities that need it (food deserts, neglected communities, or generally poor urban communities), so not just wealthy communities can experience the community building and strengthening that gardens can give.

Community gardens generate social capital is by: 

• bringing people together with a common purpose
• create[ing] a meeting place, which enables people to interact and contribute to the creation of community
• activities such as growing, cooking, and eating of food are all sociable and allow people of all ages, ethnicities, and socioeconomic backgrounds to interact informally
• helping to build links with institutions and authorities

Some of the keys to the success of this garden were grassroots initiative, the persistence of community organizers, and Lottery funding grants.

Though community gardens do not solve food insecurity, it starts the conversation and gets more people involved in their food system. 

• A constant supply of fresh fruits and vegetables enhances the gardeners’ food security. 
• Gardeners donate over 50% of their produce back to the neighborhood
• More help is needed in the form of education, the addition of food policy councils, and increased financial assistance

Some of the keys to this gardens success was the availability of experienced gardeners, grassroots organization involvement, and city programs put in place.

Community gardens can help strengthen neighborhood ties, but are also inherently exclusionary to people with less resources. 

• serve as spaces that counteract material inequalities,including food insecurity and limited green space access... These gardens thus enable participants to challenge racist discriminatory actions, and claim material rights associated with citizenship.
• is only accessible to individuals with physical abilities, knowledge, and time to volunteer. 

Some of the keys to this gardens success was established NGO involvement, large renter population (lack of personal garden), and the lack of community spaces.
