Building Connections

Justin Clark and Sydney Blackburn

Building Connections is an interactive art installation that allows people to make connections about how certain aspects of their life make them feel. This allows people in their community to come together and build a sense of unity by anonymously responding to thought-provoking prompts. Over time as more and more people place Legos; the installation grows and reflects the community's feelings and lifestyle.

Each Lego has a different color that represents a different emotion. For example, red is anger, yellow is happiness, blue is sad, etc. Each category represents possible aspects of the participant's life (school, money, family, the future, etc.). Community members are asked to assign an emotion to each category representing how it makes them feel.

As several people begin to fill up the installations it is noticed that several categories contain different emotions; gathering a multitude of opinions to develop an intriguing interactive art piece.

On this site, people from all over the world and local communities can view the data collected from each installation site as well as participating in the art piece themselves. Users will also be able to chat with people who feel the same way about the provided topics, thus helping them to build connections.
