The Problem
The problem we are facing is that beavers flood roads and destroy the property of homeowners. Most of the time to fix this problem people choose violence and exterminate the beavers. We are looking for a non-harmful solution to this problem that will benefit both beavers and people.
The Solutions
We came up with many solutions many of them being lily pad related. We were thinking of making a dock that can roll up and is easily accessible.
Our Solution
Our project focuses on designing a quickly deployable road system for areas affected by flooding. The goal is to minimize traffic disruptions by providing a quick, temporary infrastructure solution that allows vehicles to pass safely through flooded zones.
Precedents
Early Sketches/Prototypes
Pipe
Wire Covering
The aim is to protect beavers and not disturb wildlife while also preventing flooding and human-beaver conflict.
Prototype I
Rollable plates with inflatable air bags underneath (like a lily pad).
Iteration I
Instead of having something that floats underneath the Plate we had it so it floats by itself.
Iteration II
The plate is made into cubes that can be moved around to create turns.
Iteration III
We added rings on the plate so it could have more stability for cars to cross.
Iteration IV
We went back to the cube idea and made the rings on different levels for easier arrangement.
Prototype testing
How to use
Deploy the modular road blocks across the flooded area to quickly create a temporary roadway that allows vehicles to safely pass through flooded zones without major traffic delays.
