SensePath

SensePath is an innovative assistive technology project that leverages haptic feedback to provide users with real-time spatial information about their surroundings. The system is specifically designed to empower people with visual impairments by translating environmental data into tactile sensations, enabling them to navigate unfamiliar spaces with greater confidence and independence. Rather than relying solely on traditional mobility aids like white canes or guide dogs, SensePath offers a supplementary layer of awareness that can detect obstacles, openings, and spatial configurations that might otherwise go unnoticed.
The core technology behind SensePath centers on a carefully engineered silicone interface featuring a grid of tactile dots. This layout serves as the physical medium through which information is conveyed to the user's fingertips or palm. The system is powered by an underlying array of solenoid valves, which control the flow of air through precisely designed channels. These solenoids enable pneumatic actuation of individual bumps within the grid, causing them to rise and fall in dynamic patterns that correspond to the user's immediate environment.
