Project Paragraph

During my time in the studio, I primarily worked on college apps, figure drawing, crocheted sweater, and worked on my writing skills by writing a fiber arts statement. Being able to express my ideas and emotions for my past work and my goals for the future, really helped me understand myself more, and clearly express my interests for colleges to understand my work as well.

Part of artist statement:

When I am crocheting it brings me a sense of calmness, energy, and passion all at once. When exploring fabric art and fashion, I connect my interest in working with organic shapes, forms, and feelings by experimenting with floral-like shapes and a floral and organic-based color palette. In my current work, I have learned the craft and process enough to make time-intensive pieces and when finalized are useful in my day-to-day life. I plan to continue to make these visually simple pieces from time to time, while also broadening my knowledge to create more complex garments and fiber art installations. I am interested in in how it is possible to express emotions with textures and forms as well.

Growth Paragraph

For this studio, I think I have grown in the sense of being more comfortable with my observational and figure drawings while getting used to creating looser lines more often. During this time have have also given a lot of attention to completing work for CA and writing in general like working towards improving my college ap essay, and working on my portfolio. I have also grown a little more with my writing in general, because I was able to write a solid fiber arts statement after getting help from Heide.

Sketching & Drawing

A question that I ask myself a lot is "Why?" Why go through the trouble and spend hours every day and week creating garments and pieces, when I can simply just purchase and obtain what want in a second? I think it is because I love the creation and process, as it allows me to reflect on my life and emotions while also being able to learn to craft something I can then utilize after completing. I want to also be able to encourage others to notice the changes and differences, with handmade pieces and compare them to fast fashion and mass-produced items.
