Greens for Growth is a drone that uses AI to fly around and look for spots to plant trees. The AI works using YoloV8, which is an AI model, to compare images it was trained on and what a camera is seeing. The plane is a predesigned kit, called the Flight Test Goblin, which we modified to add some more reinforcement to. Unfortunately, the plane needs a larger battery to properly fly. The seed dropper works using a similar mechanism to the one on steam trains to convert rotational motion to linear motion to push seeds out, as well as a slider pushed by rubber bands to slide seeds forward.. We have not fully combined each of these individual components yet, but we hope to work on that during OI. This project is meaningful because more and more trees are getting cut down each year, and it is very hard for humans to go find locations to plant trees, and then plant them. the requires much more effort than simply sending a drone up into the air and letting it plant trees.
