Concept Devlopment

For our project, we created a 'Chose Your Own Adventure' coding game using the software platform Twine. Many different steps went into this game, such as drafting and writing a short story, creating digital characters and images, and finally coding to create our final game. For the writing part of this project to come up with an idea we looked for inspiration from different short horror stories; such as The Yellow Wallpaper and The Fall of the House of Usher. After reading and learning about the different aspects that go into horror stories, we created our own using storyboards, mood boards, story flow charts, and more. We then split up focusing on different aspects of our final creation, some working on coding our writing into Twine and others creating digital characters and images to add to the game. At the end of our work time, we combined everything and created our final game.

During this studio, I was exposed to different criteria and skills than I used to at my school, Beaver. I expanded my knowledge of the horror and gothic genres, learning different components and styles of famous short stories. I also strengthened my skills in story planning, outlining, and drafting. However, in this studio session, my knowledge of coding improved the most whether it was creating and practicing coding functions or making games on Twine. Overall, I am glad I had these experiences I wouldn't have originally had the chance to at Beaver.
