Yggdrasil is an organized space that aims to showcase past projects from fellow NuVu students and motivate current students. Although there was already a space to display past projects, feedback showed that it was complicated, cluttered, and disorderly. This is where the idea of Yggdrasil was born. Yggdrasil was designed to be an easy-to-understand, eye-catching way of demonstrating the core values of NuVu and showcasing the projects themselves. 

It was also meant to be a motivator for current students to challenge and push themselves harder in order to flaunt their projects. Yggdrasil is named, fittingly, after the World Tree in Norse Mythology since the project I shaped like a tree. There are nine branches - to match the nine worlds - each presenting projects that are specifically chosen with these values in mind; the design itself, the impact of the project, the empathy, and the innovation and creativity that went into the project.

PRECEDENTS

Technical Precedent:

We were inspired by these interlocking trees, and how they curve, so we did something similar with our project. Blocks are stacked together to form the shape of a tree and support the various projects laid on it.

Conceptual Precedent:

We originally got the idea for this project from photos like this or similar to this; a tree with branches that can support and hold projects up.

Aspirational Precedent:

This project was modeled on The World Tree from Norse Mythology. The tree was said to be a giant ash tree, supporting the universe. Its roots and branches were home to nine different worlds, including ours. That's where the idea for our project, fittingly named Yggdrasil, emerged. But instead of worlds, this project's branches will showcase past projects.

How Each Project Will Be Chosen:

The FOUR WINNERS:

In the beginning, one winner will be chosen by the staff for INNOVATION. That winner will then choose another project to be chosen for INNOVATION the next trimester.

In the beginning, one winner will be chosen by the staff for EMPATHY. That winner will then choose another project to be chosen for EMPATHY the next trimester.

The other projects on the wall will be chosen by student vote via survey They will be chosen for technical prowesses, computing prowess, creativity, documentation, fabrication, public speaking, etc. Each trimester, twenty projects will be randomly chosen. Then the student will vote on those they liked.

1. Guest Interest

Our project needs to be eye-catching and easy to understand but also needs to fit in with the rest of Nuvu.

2. Project Organization/Display

As stated, our project needs to be orderly and easy to understand; preferably with notes explaining what the project is about. 

3. Student Competition

The project must motivate students to do their best so their project gets on the wall. But there's a fine line to cross, and the wall shouldn't divide anyone.

4. Student-Student Interaction

The space also is going to be a place to sit, which means this project also must let students interact and chat.
