In this course we will engage the concept of space itself. Each week will begin with a guiding question: How do we define space? How do we construct space? When is space personal? We will critically engage each question through weekly readings, discussions, artist presentations, and field trips.
By alternately taking up the perspectives of contemporary theorists, geographers, architects, and artists we will investigate radical cartography, explore the poetic nature of corners, and listen to how the surface of the moon might sound to a piano!
By the end of this course each student will posses a robust toolbox of conceptual and aesthetic techniques with which to analyze, interpret, and design space.
