Fashion designers design clothes that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing. In this studio, we’re taking it one step further. We want to make clothing garments that are not only innovative in shape and color, but are also capable of interacting with the user. Students will design and prototype new kinds of high-tech, interactive apparel. Designs will include computer-programmed LED lights, moving parts, motors, sensors, and any creative ideas students can think up. The process includes design and fabrication of fashion garments, learning about human-robot interaction, building the hardware, and computer-programing the software aspect of the interactive systems. Students will emerge more knowledgeable about fashion design, robotics, and prototyping.
