A post by one of our students, Owen Canavan: One of the things we were shown on the first Monday of the space mining studio was a
This program can also be used for creating interesting patterns, in this case three objects were used, one in the center acting as a sun, with two others going around it slowly changing their position with each orbit, eventually when they each go half way around the center point, a circle is clearly visible.
The more objects there are in the simulation, the more complex the patterns can become. In this case, there are four objects, all of the same mass, creating two rings going through each other.
Another interesting thing is the effect of altering one variable. In this case the mass of each object is set to 120.
In this picture, I have changed nothing but the mass of the objects, from 120 to 60. The pattern is still visible, but it is clearly different.
