Sci-Fi Toys Residential

Sci-Fi Toys

Saba Ghole and Andrew Todd Marcus

What’s more fun that playing with toys? Inventing toys! In this studio, students will invent their own toys for play and entertainment based around fantasy. Students will work in small teams to collaboratively come up with ideas, and with the help of our coaches, bring their ideas to life. Students will be introduced to the product development process, including brainstorming, sketching, industrial design, concept development, modeling, prototyping, and graphic design. Students will also learn about electronics and computer programming, as they will integrate sensors, motors and interactive aspects into their fantasy toy inventions. Whatever the students can think up, they can build. It’s all up to their imagination!

In this studio, students will explore new techniques and concepts for interactive fantasy toys. Using 3d fabrication tools and software, such as laser-cutters and 3d printers, as part of the production process students will prototype and build their toys and play-test them with their peers and coaches. Interactive toys and fantasy brought together...it will be a fun 2 weeks!
