- Work on a flat surface with lots of space to organize materials.
- Collages can be made of clippings from magazines. Choose parts of images you find interesting, or simply collect colors you like by cutting out the backgrounds of photos.
- You do not need tape or glue to create the collage, in fact it is useful to be able to rearrange the elements of the collage as you work.
- Use tape to fix clippings you accidentally tear while removing them. Also consider how mistakes can be turned into "opportunities" to try a different direction
- Overlapping clippings can be very effective.
- Be careful with scissors - get help from your parents if you need assistance clipping out your images.
- Once everything is in place, you can tape/glue the collage down if you are worried about pieces moving.
- Take a photo or scan the collage. Be sure to crop the photo so only the edges of the paper are showing.
- Have this scan and the physical collage ready for the first day of class.
