Changes we made on the second prototype:

Made the rubber bands attach to pad, Made there be indirect action with wheels controlling string on both sides of the blocker which can pull it both ways, Used metal as the secondary blocker. Cleaned up glue from last time, used two more rubber bands, Made the primary blocker stronger,

Changes we need, Change all materials out of cardboard to wood or other, Make the blocker even stronger, Make movement system better and faster, HAve fun and be safe

Finish Third prototype. Get peer feedback to start fourth prototype. Look into gum not gun.

Today was certainly exciting! I worked on the exact materials of the primary blocker of the bullet. How about that Carbon Fiber Am I right. The wind bellows a cat appears its silky feet marking the only noise besides the light pitter-patter of rain. I would like to get the movement down so we know exactly how the machine will move and also start to really see how we can make it as close to useable as possible. (EXP: Using real-life measurements).

Uliana's Brief

Soaring Seeds is a  biodegradable plant terrarium which can be hung on trees. Within the terrarium lies a message and a seed to be planted, with the goal of reducing deforestation. 

Soaring Seeds is a series of multiple small terrariums that can be hung on trees. These terrariums contain seeds that will eventually be planted into the earth. Soaring Seeds is made out of bioplastic so that it can quickly degrade after being planted. The bioplastic forms a terrarium that encases all of the necessary ingredients for a healthy plant to live in. It also includes a drainage hole at the bottom. 

Soaring Seeds was created because of the overwhelming amount of trees being cut down every year. For example, we cut down 20 million trees per year to produce books. Soaring Seeds is marketed towards people living in urban environments. In urban spaces, people removed from the daily reality of natural forest loss. By interacting with the terrarium, the hope is they will learn some rudimentary knowledge about deforestation. With this knowledge, the goal is they will plant the seed in and become more aware of how they can contribute to transforming the earth.

Soaring Seeds is a project aiming to spread awareness of deforestation and its consequences by bringing attention to how consumerism impacts the environment,and providing the tools and motive to help. 

This project consists of biodegradable terrariums that are hung on trees, with graphics and catchphrases on them that invite people to make an impact on their environment by planting the terrarium in the ground. The terrariums are made out of bioplastic so that they will degrade faster than other materials, and they have a small hole in the bottom to allow rainwater to flow through the soil and hydrate the plant, without making the environment too damp or significantly lessening the amount of soil.

The terrariums are hung in city parks and other forested areas within urban spaces, and contain artificial seed pods. The writing on the terrariums encourage people to notice and plant them. The goal is for users to either take the contents home and plant the seed the terrarium contains, or tell others about the terrariums themselves, therefore spreading awareness about the issue.

After the Final Presentation, you have the opportunity to consider your presentation in light of final feedback and discussion. You will spend additional time reviewing you presentations, refining you portfolio, and polishing you work before it is made public on the internet.

The Self Evaluation is an opportunity for you to reflect on your work during the Studio. Students and Coaches receive the same prompts and categories, and the students will evaluate their own progress and skill levels in Design Skills and Subject Skills applicable to the studio both numerically and textually. Through a narrative, you will also reflect on the quality and rigor of your work, give feedback on the studio, and have the opportunity to receive similar feedback directly from the coach.

The purpose of the daily post is to document the progress for the day. You will do this through the following post types:

Documentation

In the Documentation tab, each team member should post images of the work they completed over the course of the day. This includes ideas that came out of your mind - sketches, images of prototypes, renders or screenshots of digital designs, storyboards, etc. Every image must have a Title and Caption. See the example in the Gallery of this post.

Title - What is the image of? Be specific in terms of the version and content.
ex - Shade prototype 1,  Initial storyboard, 3D Model of Shade Connection.

Caption - What aspect of your design process does the image capture and how did it inform your process?  
ex - Exploring mobility of hexagons. We noticed that in order to raise the shade, many hexagons would need to become trapezoids.

Precedents

Precedent research is a fundamental part of the creative process, providing context, inspiration, and technical guidance. It is work that came out of someone else's mind. In the Precedents Tab, each team member should post precedents applicable to the current stage of design. While you need not have a new precedent every day, be sure to include them each time you make substantive technical or design changes.

Things to consider:

  • Each precedent should have its own post.
  • Each image should have a title and caption saying what the image is and attributing the source.
  • Each precedent should have 1-2 sentences explaining how the precedent is applicable to your project.

GloFlo

Davis Howland and Ryland Mattoon

GloFlo is designed for overtaxed people to manage stress and improve focus by encouraging them to take a moment to relax their minds. The soothing white light energizes the mind and helps the user focus. The lamp consists of lights on the end of eight arms that move up and down. The mechanism is controlled by the users hands in proximity of the sensors on the device. As you move your hands closer to the sensor the lights move up and if you move them farther away the lights move down. If you remove your hand from the sensor entirely the lights move back to their original state in the upwards position. An Arduino inside the base relays information from the ultrasonic distance sensor to the servo which moves a certain number of degrees depending on the distance measured from the sensor to the moving hand. The servo spools up string that attaches to each of the arms, which then pivot on the y-axis in unison. The lights, which are always powered on while the device is plugged in, are attached to the end of each arm. The meditative motions conducted by the user in combination with the soft white lights will serve asa helpful way to reach a calm and relaxed state of mind.
