Unity in Fragmentation

"Unity in Fragmentation" is a bas relief painting composed of individual faces that come together as one. After researching conceptual art where the focus is on the idea behind the work rather than the final product, I decided to incorporate this approach into my project.

The idea behind my piece is unity of people no matter what they look like or how they act. At first, I wanted to make a broken mirror painting that reflects different versions of someone, the one that is shown through social media and the one that they are internally. The idea evolved from there to various faces of different individuals depicted in a broken mirror like pattern. The message is that whoever you are, whatever you have done, whatever your identity is, everyone is still human.

I used acrylic pant on laser cut wood pieces that were then cut out into different triangles and shapes. The faces have all different sizes, features and skin tones. Lastly, the wooden pieces are glued and spread on a dyed wooden board.
