Modular Design

Kate James

In Session 2 we thought about two ideas:

-Modular design how small, repetitive elements can add up to a larger design proposition.

-Habitation: what makes a space inhabitable. We made a list together of features: ventilation, enclosure, access to resources like food and water, waste systems.

We then challenged the kids to choose one material from the "materials buffet" (paper plates, popsicle sticks, small cups, laser cut cardboard elements, etc.) and connect it in a repetitive way to create a model of an inhabitable space.

The kids took the idea and ran with it, creating cup towers, rolling-up houses, angular towers, and other fascinating habitats.
