The Super Seed (an interactive squirrel feeder)  helps the public engage with nature as they pass by. It leaves the audience with a more interesting experience to the public space, rather than seeing a simple, boring vending machine. We hope it will distract people from their phones, and instead help people in the botanic gardens engage with the nature around them.

Our initial sketches illustrated something completely different from our final project, it was a different system with a different overall look. Ji encouraged us to make a more interesting shape so we started making sketches for a design. It included lots of tubes and it was even gong to be wrapped around a tree!

After all of our final sketches were drawn up we started to prototype, we had to try many different mechanisms for the opening and closing system. Eventually we used a sliding door technique. We then designed a filter using the 3D printer, this was so the food came out controlled instead of a fountain of falling seeds. Afterwards we made a tube system and a bag to store the seeds. We were slightly rushed towards the end so we just and to duct tape all the parts together.

When we took it to the Botanic Gardens, we attached it to a post of a gazebo. When we tested it the seeds stuck in the dispenser. So sadly it didn't work, it might of if we had more time to put all of the pieces together, and maybe also if we had more hot glue. Thank you for listening to our presentation, any questions?
