Whether we notice or not- humans are not the only ones inhabiting the urban environment. There are bats that roost in warm cavities, spaces like the cozy attics of our homes. The dumpsters are very much alive with raccoons plunging through our food scraps. Our plastic debris become new ornamentations for birds, who fancy a modern nest home on building cornices.
While they are a nuisance at times, there is no doubt that some of these critters have become a critical mass in our urban ecosystems. The spaces we share with these urban animals are important thresholds that make us wonder how our environment can evolve to become more co-habitable.
Using mixed mediums, we will create site-specific installations that bring to light the cohabited spaces in the city that are often hidden from plain sight. In the process, we will learn about sculpture, image processing, bas-relief, and more importantly, what it means to create art in public spaces.
