VT Adaptive

Studio Description

Andrew Todd Marcus

Each year, traumatic brain injuries (TBI) contribute to a substantial number of deaths and cases of permanent disability. A TBI is caused by a bump, blow or jolt to the head or a penetrating head injury that disrupts the normal function of the brain. The severity of a TBI may range from “mild” to “severe” and can have similar results as a stroke.

By partnering with Vermont Adaptive Ski & Sports, students will be working  for the benefit of youth and adults with disabilities.  Students will be looking to engineer improvements and enhancements to existing equipment, producing "open source" adaptations which can enable a person to participate in a sport or physical activity. Each project will be  inspired by demonstrated need and designed with feedback from  clients and volunteers who use adaptive equipment, with the overall goal of improving access for all.
