This project is an exploration of political philosophy and worldbuilding. We initially did research on political philosophy by reading work from John Locke and Thomas Hobbes, as well as others. WE learned about the state of nature and the different political theories about why governmental systems and enclosures arise and what keeps them together. To demonstrate all of these theories, we made a nation called Navistine. Navistine is a state that is a combination of a Lockean and Hobbesian state. this becasue it is broken up into multiple city-states that are all monarchies, which is why there is the Hobbesian aspect. The property rights and ownership align with the Lockean philosophy. As mentioned, this state is a coalition of monarchies that all rule and make decisions in an oligarchic fashion. This nation heavily relies on trade, and because of plentiful access to wood has become very good at producing ships cheaply and with high quality. To represent the natural resources and the dominion of the city-states in our map, we made a topographical representation of the terrain using layered clear acrylic and embedded icons to represent the different resources. To represent the states, there are raised sheets of tinted acrylic that outline the differnt city states. The states are raised to show the fragility and the separation of the government and the state of nature.
