Vocabulary Memorization within Language Education
BRAGI
BRAGI stands for Bilingual Reality Augmentation for Global Immersion. BRAGI is an application designed to run on an augmented reality platform such as the Meta Quest 3 or Apple Vision Pro. The goal of the project is to simulate immersive language education. The scope for this specific project is a vocabulary memorization system, aiming to support word retention. Inspired by Duolingo learning units, this application presents a novel approach to language education based on object salience as a means to expand a user's vocabulary in a foreign language.

Goals
The goal of this project is to aid the user in Spanish vocabulary memorization.
Learning Goal
This app will display flashcards over real-world objects, which will quiz users on the Spanish pronunciation of the objects.
Functional Goal
I aim to quantify the application's performance with regards to price per word learned.

Final Functionality
Comparative Financial Analysis
- Current public schooling system is spending, on average, $20 monthly per student for language memorization solutions.
- BRAGI uses pay-by-use, averaging $0.00067 per word.
- BRAGI maximum usage costs $6.25 per student
- for the 42.4 million public school students, the pay-by-use model would save $652 million annually.
- AR integration would boost initial investment by $231 million.

Comparative Efficiency Analysis
- Bragi has a learning rate of 8-10 interactions per word.
- Mainstream applications have a learning rate of 12-16.
- It should be noted, this could be due to enhanced engagement rather than object salience
- Price per word is 30 times less than current price of $0.33
Final Takeaways
This application couldn't teach fluency alone, but it sets a precedent for the curation of a cost-effective pay-by-use education model and supports current data on the use of AR to boost student engagement and performance.
