Lifting Lever

Ben, Dhruv, Lloyd

Root washer design is a project aimed at streamlining the process for washing roots. For this project, we partnered with Land's Sake Farm, who mentioned that it was challenging to wash roots due to weight. The two main parts of the project are a lever that makes it easier to lift crates, which the farm uses to transport produce, and also a re-designed layout for the root washing drum, inside the farm's wash room. The lever is a simple flat piece of wood with two prongs at the end that can slide over the edge of crates. at the moment, it cannot lift that much weight so the final version will probably be a different, less flexible material. The root washer layout includes putting the drum in the middle of the room facing the door, so that a truck can pull right up to the back to unload easier. There is also a short table with crates on the other end to catch vegetables. it is all stored along the walls, with the heavier items closer to the door so it is easier to move into place. This project is meaningful because It should allow the farm to wash heavy roots quicker and easier.

For our project, we want to focus on making the process of washing the roots faster and easier. Specifically we wanted to work on how produce is loaded into the root washer, and collected after it's washed. What we are proposing is a lever that attaches to the crate, that makes this task efficient and less strenuous for the people loading and unloading the produce into the root washer, as well as a new layout for the root washing area.

Moveable Storage Tables

Patrick:

"Moveable Storage Tables" is a project which aims to help our client, Land's Sake Farm, have tables that provide storage and easy mobility for their indoor education space. Moveable Storage Tables consist of several different tables, all designed with features to facilitate movement, whether through wheels or balls on their feet, along with storage drawers. They can be moved either by pushing them or by folding up the legs for carrying from one building to another. While transporting, the drawers can be locked in place from the outside using a simple lock, flipped down to prevent the drawers from falling out. Once the tables are positioned where desired, an extra set of legs can be lowered to hold them in place, ready for use.

Calming Classroom

Verity Gould and Luke Kitov

Calming Classroom is a design plan for the interior of a building meant for classes, parties, and shelter from storms. This project was done in collaboration with Land's Sake Farm in Weston, MA. When looking at the indoor education space, we’ve noticed that it would be a hard place for someone, particularly a child who may be scared of harsh weather outside, to calm down in. We intend to address this by creating a design plan for furnishings and ways to arrange the space, such that moving the furnishings is possible for all potential uses of the space whilst retaining the standard of comfort.
