Germination - the process of a seed starting to grow after a period of dormancy. Moisture is required for seed germination.

Photosynthesis - the process by which green plants use sunlight to create and store foods from carbon dioxide and water with the byproduct of oxygen.

Hydroponics - the technique of growing plants using a water-based nutrient solution rather than soil

Solution (chemistry) - a liquid mixture in which the minor component (the solute) is uniformly distributed within the major component, often water (the solvent).

pH Level - a measure of how acidic/basic a liquid is. The range goes from 0 - 14, with 7 being neutral. Lemons are very acidic (pH of 2) Bleach is very basic (pH of 13)

PPM - "Part Per Million” is a unit of measurement used to describe very small amounts of something in a much larger amount of something else. 1 per 1,000,000

Full Spectrum Light - light that covers all wavelengths of the electromagnetic spectrum that are useful to plant or animal life. Sunlight is considered full spectrum

Transpiration - the passive process of water movement through a plant and its evaporation from its leaves. It enables mass flow of mineral nutrients from the roots.

Macronutrients - the nutrients we need in larger quantities that provide us with energy: in other words, fat, protein and carbohydrate.

Micronutrients - mostly vitamins and minerals, consumed in very small amounts. antioxidants, electrolytes, and organic acids.

Antioxidants - Antioxidants inhibit oxidation, a chemical reaction that can produce free radicals. Free radicals degrade living tissue such as brain cells.

Anti-inflammatory - a substance or treatment that reduces inflammation or swelling. Inflammation causes a long list of disorders: arthritis, asthma, blindness, cancer, and diabetes.

Mitosis - a type of cell division that results in two daughter cells each having the same number and kind of chromosomes as the parent nucleus, typical of ordinary tissue growth.

Transpiration - the process of water movement through a plant and its evaporation from aerial parts, such as leaves, stems and flowers.
