IDENTITY VESSELS
Ben Dowers, Fall 2023
My final models were a game based off my memory of exploring a river in Vermont, a windmill based off of my memory of building a lego windmill, and a model of my dogs and also some other dog related items, which relates to my memory of adopting my dogs.

Project Statement
I brainstormed 3 memories for my project. Exploring a river in Vermont, building a lego windmill when I was 5, and adopting my dogs. Exploring a river relates to my identity as a sibling, because I was exploring the river with my family, and also my identity as someone who enjoys being outdoors. Building a lego windmill relates to my identity as a maker, because it was the first time I made a project on my own with no instructions. Adopting my dogs relates to my identity as a dog owner, because I was very excited to adopt my dogs.
Brainstorming Sketches
For my first project, I made a game based off of a river I explored with my family in Vermont. I decided to make the game to try to recreate the way we interacted with the environment, to try to tie it back to the original memory as much as possible.
River game
For the windmill, I wanted to give the user the same feeling of satisfaction that I got when I finished making the lego version without instructions.

For the dog project, I wanted to recreate the feeling of excitement for the future I got when I adopted my dogs.

Project Paragraph
During this studio, I created three objects based off of memories. The first object is a game in which you have to move up river by constructing rock bridges. The rules are supposed to encourage collaboration, but also be competitive. This will make the users feel even more like some siblings exploring a river, and makes the game more like the original memory. The game board is also based off of the actual river, which also makes the game seem more like the memory. The second object is a windmill that the user has to put together. It has to be put together to give the user a feeling of satisfaction, which relates to the memory of building a lego windmill and feeling accomplished. The third project is a model of some dogs, and also memories shared with those dogs. this is supposed to convey the excitement for the future when you adopt dogs.
Growth Paragraph
over the course of the studio, I grew at sketching and drawing, iteration, engaging, and collaborating. I grew at sketching when we sketched containers for objects, sketching parts of our identities on the identity cubes, and sketching memories. This will allow me to express my ideas through drawing better. I did iteration when I made cardboard versions of my projects, and experimented with different versions of my game. This helped me realize that many small ideas can be better than on big idea. I did collaboration when I asked for feedback from the people at my table about my windmill project, and they said that I should make the windmill have extra pieces. this helped me improve at seeking out feedback. I engaged and persisted when I tried to raise my hand to talk once per day, and I also asked for feedback, (specifically on the dog project) and asked questions about how to complete assignments. This helped me improve at asking questions.
