NEW PHOTOS

Schuyler Johnson

Wow, ok. We're definitely getting somewhere. Apparently 1 minute is a decent time, but we need to continue to experiment. Need to be more careful with fingerprints too, haha. I think starting to experiment with different light levels is a good next step.

Accomplishments: Picture of a car! Hard to take photos today, considering it was 16 degrees outside with windchill. Decent photo, but we need to take more. I plan on taking the development chemicals home today, and experiment over the weekend. I also started working on a clip magazine for a camera to maximize photo-taking efficiency.

Future Goals: More. Photos.

Accomplishments: Photos, finally! The new film works like a charm. The first photo is actually two images, one on top of the other. I guess what we need to do now is take as many pictures as possible for practice. All of the photos are negatives, which might be a problem though. The exposure time seems to be on the higher end, with (surprise) more direct sunlight being a plus.

Future Goals: More photos! maybe even one where you can see someone's face clearly

Accomplishments: More photos! Isa and I took a few more photos, this time with a much longer exposure time (about 2 hours). Out of the 3 photos, 1 didn't show anything notable (slightly worse camera), 1 showed basic shapes and 1 showed the outline of trees! Right now we dont know if the exposure time is even longer, so we plan to take a photo with a 12 hour exposure time. We also dont know if touching the film smudges the image, so we will try to limit that as much as possible.
Future goals:- Get more film (90's film might not be the best)- Wait for a sunny day (the past two have been cloudy)

Accomplishments:

Tested multiple photos, in order to ascertain if the current setup we have works. It does!

Unfortunately, the best we were able to get is a picture of the uv flashlight. However, this proves that our paper works, it just needs a long time to expose. We tried a 3 minute exposure, but that didn't work. Tomorrow we plan to try a 10 minute exposure.

Update

Images have been taken with a 26 second exposure. images haven't been developed.

Update

Isa Murray

We have developed images, only one of which seemed to contain an image of what could be a support beam. We are questioning what could cause the lack of image, whether it be light bleed, camera problems, or the fact that the film being used is over 35 years old. I also got a picture from my latest camera that showed minimal light leak at a 30 second exposure as well as a clean image of a uv flashlight.

Sunday Jan.22.2023 Failed Film Developing

Trevor McDonald

.This afternoon I used some old Ilford film my dad had left over from the 90s. I then made some of my own film ink because I thought that would be fun to try. The ingredients are listed in the first slide above. I made both the developer and the fixer. The one problem, which is probably the reason it didn't work, was my 1000mg of vitamin c were not pure, instead it was part of an orange tea mix. The vitamin c is supposed to change the contrast, so I also could've not had enough.

Another possible issue could've been the exposure. I exposed it for 30 seconds with an ultraviolet light, then 10 seconds, then 5 seconds with a regular light. They all turned out what I think looks like overexposure. I could try exposing it with just a quick flash of light and see if it comes out black, if it doesn't the problem is definitely my wack developing ink.

Sunday Jan.14.2023 : First Test

I watched a couple of YouTube videos trying to understand what a pinhole camera was because I was pretty clueless after our conversation on Friday. I then mocked up a rhino file that ended up not working out. I later realized this was because I hadn't backed up my build with formulas that make a pinhole camera work. My next model I will definitely be using mr.pinhole.com to help build up my next design.
