4.A | Creating A Journey Map & Narrative

Creating A Journey Map & Narrative

Justin Bernard and Ipek Karaoglu Koksalan

Prompt:

In your teams, design and create a map of your planned journey with the vehicle you've been designing from destination A to destination B, using a pen, pencil, markers or with collage on a large sheet of paper provided. Your map should visually describe all of your trip. Your travel journey should be a reflection on why your vehicle is designed the way it is designed. It should also include place names and geographical conditions like rivers, oceans, major roads, mountains, valleys, etc.

1. Prepare a short narrative and be ready to share verbally with class about:

-Why you are taking this trip?
-Who and what you are transporting?
-How long will your journey take?
-Is there a specific time you need to reach your destination? Why? If yes, how will you make there on time? Take this opportunity to think about the infrastructure in which your vehicle will operate. (E.g.: If your vehicle is flying, consider air traffic rules. What are some methods of communication and signaling?)

2. On your map, for each leg of your journey, describe how your vehicle works:

-Why and how does it work well in such environments?
-What are the advantages and disadvantages of this particular mode of transit in certain environments?
-What is the primary way of fueling or powering each mode of transportation?
-Is this method of power/ fuel suitable for the environments you envisioned?

Process:

Research + Sketching  + Creating a Narrative: Destination + Journey (45 mins)

Journey Map Final Draft : Class Discussion (30 mins)

Deliverables:
