First Semester Recap
Jun - Dec 2022
Students
For the first quarter of the academic year, all students that attend the Fort Meade campus during the morning session (8am-12pm) will be involved in the NuVu program. Anticipated enrollment during Q1 is around 20 students, or one studio.

Teachers
NBHS will hire and onboard two new teachers to staff the Fort Meade campus. One teacher will have a Math/Science certification and the other will have an ELA certification. The fellow will work alongside these teachers to deliver studio content. For the first quarter, these teachers will co-teach one or more studios with the NuVuX Fellow. Once they are more comfortable teaching in this model, they will lead their own studios using a curriculum developed by NuVu.
Program Participants
One coteacher was present at the beginning of the year, but was pulled out of studio within the first month.
Presence
Students need to attend class on a consistent and regular basis. Since the bulk of the work is hands-on, students will need to be on campus to develop their work.

Collaboration
Student feedback about collaboration:
Engagement
Lightly edited for grammatical clarity
"I'm proud that me and my partner was able to put are ideas together and make something everyone loves."
"My collaboration was very good because we used the tools we were given to make it better."
"If I were to rate the collaboration it would be a 5 out of 10 and it could be improved a lot."
Mentorship
Students are led by the NuVuX Fellow and other appropriate teachers through the studio model process. On a daily basis students interface with their teachers and coaches to develop their work.
Engagement
Chris has developed strong relationships with students.
"The teacher here Mr. Chris is a very good teacher he connects with the students and helps us understand the projects. Has patience with his students when they have a problem and want them to excel on their creations."
NuVuX Studios
NuVu Studios are interdisciplinary in nature and will reach across traditional subject areas to connect current and future world challenges to design, engineering, science, math, history, english and other areas of study. Students, often working in groups of two and three, learn how to approach problems collaboratively and iteratively in pursuit of a successful outcome.

Florida Standards
NuVu will align studio content with the 2022 Florida state learning standards. Where applicable, content will be developed to enhance the connection between the area of investigation of the studio and the standards. This curriculum will provide opportunities for the ELA and Math/Science teachers to contribute to or create lessons and assignments that utilize their areas of expertise.
Program Curriculum
Standards were included in each NuVu assignment, but were not assessed, reflected in Edgenuity, or students' progress towards graduation.
Since co-teachers were not present, ELA & Math/Science integration was lacking.

Florida Standards included in Fall Term
After completing their High School diploma, NBHS students are primarily focused towards entering the workforce. Through the NuVuX pilot, they will gain:
- Creative Mindset and problem solving skills
- Technical skills (CAD, coding, engineering, etc.)
- High School credits grounded in real world learning
- Exposure to careers and pathways they may not have previously considered

Following an extensive site visit and survey of existing facilities at the Fort Meade campus, NuVuX identified the Media Center as the preferred location for the studio. The Media Center’s existing layout provides studio, shop, meeting rooms and storage spaces that are already in line with NuVu’s Architectural Design Guidelines and can be modified to suit the pilot program with minimal work and upfront investment.
Space
Once the two teachers are hired and onboarded by NBHS to co-lead studios with the NuVuX Fellow, they will receive hands-on mentorship and guidance from the NuVuX Fellow during Q1 as they co-lead the first studios together. Additional PD and support will be provided by NuVuX staff throughout the academic year. The co-teaching model is intended to fully prepare teachers to be able to teach studios independently with ongoing support as enrollment increases.
Professional Development
Without coteachers, we have not been able to provide the intended PD to Fort Meade faculty.
A renewed effort in cultivating a culture of community and belonging at the Fort Meade campus will create alignment between the NuVu studio and the other components of the student experience on campus.
Advisory
Advisory groups facilitate the social and emotional development of students within an academic environment.
Student Services
Regular and reliable on campus visibility and programming that connects students to the NBHS emotional wellness coach, college and career counselors, and other support services will create a well rounded student experience.
Other
These might include the initiation of interest clubs, social events, or other opportunities for students to engage with each other on campus.
Culture
To our knowledge, Studio is only place on campus cultivating a community for students.
