beneath bootsoles

By Mathew Paul

'Beneath Bootsoles' explores the last verse of Walt Whitman's poem Song of Myself. The player follows a path made up of text and explores animations representing the different lines of poetry. The poem explores our connection to nature; as the player views the poem and visuals, they gain a deeper understanding of the poem. The visual experience and text help the player gain a greater appreciation of our interconnection to the world around us.

The player starts the game in the sky, being untamed and loud like the birds. The player can hear footsteps as they walk down the path. As they continue walking, they can hear nature sounds. As the sun sets, the animations become more abstract as you travel down to the earth. More and more nature sounds are added until the footsteps can not be heard. By the end of the path, the player sees animations of plants growing, as they travel below the dirt.
